Academy SITREP – U.S. to Help Stranded Ships Leave Strait of Hormuz

What has Happened: The United States will launch an effort on Monday to “guide” stranded ships out of the Strait of Hormuz. The new initiative doesn’t currently involve U.S. Navy warships escorting vessels through the Strait. The plan, called “Project Freedom,” is a process through which countries, insurance companies, and shipping organizations can coordinate moving traffic through the Strait. President Trump said that the move is “humanitarian,” but it is a clear challenge to Iran’s effort to control the Strait.
