What has Happened: Last evening, Israel and Lebanon agreed to renew their fragile ceasefire agreement and create a number of “pilot” security zones inside of Lebanon where Hezbollah would be banned. Stopping the intense fighting between Israel and Hezbollah has become another critical gating item to moving the peace talks forward with Iran. However, once again, Hezbollah, which is not part of the Lebanese government, was not present at the talks held at the State Department, and rejected it.
